VOICE OF A NATION
VOICE OF A NATION
On April 29th, 1992, the day of the start of the LA Riots, Nick Quested started filming VOICE OF A NATION. Examining major themes of urban culture and introducing the main characters of Hip Hop, the movie took us backstage and on tour with the best MCs : KRS-ONE, EPMD, Redman, Gangstarr, Public Enemy, etc…
Through the lens of some of the most influential artists of the time were discussed the frustrations of a community. Through the use of language, were discovered the art of rhyming and free-styling, while framing Hip Hop in the context of other African American musical expressions.
Unable to afford to clear the music at the time, the film was put on a shelf… No one has seen it since 1994. VOICE OF A NATION is a veritable time capsule, untouched by time and corporate self-interest.
